Antonette “Inky” Josephine Peternell July 26, 1947 – March 13, 2019 Share this obituary Send Flowers Sign Guestbook| Send Sympathy Card Antonette “Inky” Josephine (Penrod) Peternell, 71, of Weir, Kansas, passed away at 7:11 p.m. Wednesday, March 13, 2019 at the Pittsburg Care and Rehab Center after battling cancer for the past three years. She was born July 26, 1947 at Weir, Kansas, the daughter of George and Marie (Jacquinet) Penrod. She attended school in Weir and graduated from Weir High School.

She later attended Labette Community College and received her degree in nursing. On December 18, 1965, she was united in marriage to Robert Eugene Peternell at Columbus, Kansas. He preceded her in death.

Inky was a registered nurse at several area nursing homes. She was also Co-Owner of the Peternelli Sausage Company. Membership was held in the St. Bridget’s Catholic Church, where she was an active member.

Survivors include two daughters, Tina Gantt (Larry) of Scammon, Kansas and Lisa More (Chip) of Pleasanton, Kansas; a sister, Judy Dietz (Gerald) of Weir, Kansas; seven grandchildren, Kayla Fox (Nick), Tatum Smith (Avery), Blynn Hill (Kayla), Ashley Boddy (Jason), Austin Hill More, Abigail More, and Kaitlyn More; and six great-grandchildren. Her grandchildren were the light of her life and she was beloved by them all. She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, Frances, William, John and Robert Penrod, and three sisters, Margaret Joyce “Peggy” Hubbard, Roberta Elaine Uber and Florence Marie Leone.

Services will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday (March 21) at the Brenner Mortuary with Fr. Jeremy Huser officiating. Burial will follow in the Hosey Hill Cemetery, west of Weir.

A rosary will be prayed at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Brenner Mortuary, where the family will receive friends following until 7:30 p.m. Friends may call after 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Breast Cancer Foundation. These may be left at or mailed to the Brenner Mortuary, 114 E. 4th St, Pittsburg, KS 66762.

Friends may leave condolences online at www. brennermortuary.com. There will be a “potluck” dinner celebration of life following the graveside at the Weir Senior Citizen’s building.

The family asks that everyone bring a covered dish. Arrangements are under the direction of Brenner Mortuary.
