Obituary for Arla Carolyn Woodcock Arla Carolyn Woodcock, 91, of Traverse City passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 28, 2018 at Grand Traverse Pavilions surround by family that loved her. Arla was born on April 6, 1927 in Detroit, Michigan to the late Darwin and Mildred (Martinson) Orcutt. She married the love of her life Glenn Woodcock on December 17, 1949 who preceded her in death on January 4, 2015.

Arla graduated from Lansing Business College. She was employed at Bethlehem Lutheran Church for 23 years as a secretary, where she offered words of wisdom and support for those in need. Arla was later employed with Oleson’s at the in deli.

Arla was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, the Grand Traverse Area Republican Women’s Club, and Red Hat Society. She volunteered with the Grand Traverse Probate Court and the Grand Traverse Land Conservancy. Arla enjoyed oil painting, gardening, and planting trees.

She was a self-taught pianist. Arla sang with the Sweet Adelines. She loved her cats, especially “Sundae”.

Above all spending time with her family was her greatest joy. Arla is survived by her two loving daughters; Judith (Michael) Smith and Nanci Woodcock. Also surviving are two granddaughters; Jennifer (Tim) Lyon and Amy (Danny) Chiao, as well as four great-grandchildren; Leland and Nola Lyon and Daylin and Tiverton Chiao.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Helen Petter. Friends are welcome to visit with Arla’s family on Tuesday, July 31, 2018 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home, 305 Sixth St., Traverse City, MI 49684. A funeral service honoring Arla will take place at 11:00 a.m., with visitation one hour prior, on Wednesday, August 1, 2018 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1003 S. Maple St, Traverse City, MI 49684.

Rev. Bruce Lucas will officiate. A committal service will follow at 1:30 p.m. or shortly thereafter at Maple Grove Cemetery in Elk Rapids.
