Obituary for Arlene R. Hawbaker Arlene R. Hawbaker, 78, of York, died peacefully at home, Tuesday, January 1, 2019. Born in Chambersburg on July 27, 1940, she was the daughter of the late Luther J. and Mary (Miller) Stinson. Arlene was the loving wife and best friend of David B. Hawbaker, Jr.; they were married for 60 years.

Arlene and her husband owned and operated a Subway restaurant in Lancaster. She attended Calvary Baptist Church of York. She enjoyed gardening, playing games and cards, and collecting dolls.

Arlene had an interest in taxidermy, and had a large collection of preserved animals. She was a loving wife and mother, and loved to spend time with her family, especially her grandchildren. In addition to her husband, Arlene is survived by her son, Gregory David Hawbaker and his wife, Carrie Anne of Moseley, VA; her daughter, Kimberly Kaye Wales of Dover; her sisters, Mary Alice Poe, Bonnie Miller, and Kathryn Defenderfer all of Chambersburg; her grandchildren, Alexis Nicole Hawbaker, Erica Leigh Hawbaker, Jason David Hawbaker, Michael David Barley, Steven Richard Barley, and Kristina Sabrina Wales; and her two great-granddaughters, Hope Rachel Barley and Gloria Rose Barley.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Jean Myers and her brothers, Edward, Kenneth, L. Dale, and Eldon Stinson. A memorial service to celebrate Arlene’s life will be held on Friday, January 4, 2019 at 3:00 p.m. at the Etzweiler Funeral Homes and Cremation Service, 1111 East Market Street, York, with Pastor Richard Hall officiating. Private interment in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens will be held at the convenience of the family.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Arlene’s memory may be made to Calvary Baptist Church, 2740 Roosevelt Avenue, York, PA 17408.
