Obituary for Arne Idland Arne Idland, age 92, of Glendive, Montana formerly of Circle, Montana, passed away on Tuesday, September 4, 2018 at the Glendive Medical Center. Private family services will be held at a later date. Silha Funeral Home of Glendive has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Arne was born on June 2, 1926 in Algard, Norway, a son of Erik and Engliva (Eide) Idland. He was raised and educated in Norway where he attended grade school and later vocational training for farming and ranching. At the age of eighteen, Arne was drafted into the Norwegian Army and he served honorably.

Following his time in the Army, Arne returned home to work on the family farm and ranch. While back at home he met and later married Jenny Ravndal. They were united in marriage on August 28, 1948 in Norway and to this union five sons were born.

In 1953, the family moved to the United States, just east of Circle, Montana where they purchased a ranch and continued on with the family business. Arne loved the lifestyle that came with the ranch and he thoroughly enjoyed working his cows. In 1987, Arne retired and he and Jenny moved to Glendive where they have resided since.

In his free time Arne liked fishing and spending time with family and friends at their cabin in Fort Peck. He also enjoyed traveling with Jenny and dancing. He was a member of the Moose Lodge and the Elks Lodge.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, and four brothers. Arne is survived by his wife Jenny of Glendive; five sons, Sven (Diane) Idland of Circle, Oddvar (Patsy) Idland of Circle, Alf (Donna) Idland of Richey, Montana, Kenny (Ronda) Idland of Circle, and Glen (Connie) Idland of Circle; eighteen grandchildren; thirty-two great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
