Arnold John Heck was born on September 28, 1927, to Reinholdt and Lydia Heck on the family farm near Isabel, South Dakota. He passed away peacefully in his sleep, on September 15th 2018. He was the fourth child of eight born to this union.

He grew up in the area and graduated from Isabel High in May, 1945. After the required time in the military and time spent with the Army of Occupation in Korea, he returned to Isabel with a medical discharge. He spent the summer on the home farm and in the fall of 1947 he briefly attended college in Aberdeen, SD.

Later in the year, he took a job, as parts man, with Spaulding Auto Co. in Aberdeen. On March 28, 1948 he was united in marriage with Ruth Dougall, Isabel, SD. They made their home in Aberdeen where their three sons, Wesley, Gregory and Barry were born.

In January 1958 the family moved to Casselton, ND where he had taken a job with Valley Motors, the local Ford dealer, as the parts manger. In 1966 he took a job with W.W. Wallwork, the Ford dealer in Fargo and stayed there nearly 10 years, when he went into business for himself. He stayed with this venture until his health forced him to quit working.

He retired in the summer of 1989. His wife Ruth passed away Dec. 2, 2004.

He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant brother, 2 sisters, a brother, and a brother-in-law. He is survived by two brothers, Robert (Christine), Stafford, NC, William (Mary), Elk River, MN and one sister, Donna (Ed) Mullet, Stephentown, NY. Also surviving are three sons, Wesley, Jacksonville FL, Gregory and Barry (Evelin) Heck, Casselton, ND; three grandsons and a granddaughter, Greg II (Debra), Modesto, CA, Jason (Leslie), Windsor, CO, Conner, Fargo, ND, and Alyssa Heck (Mike Duffney), Colchester VT; two great grandchildren, Alex and Reinholdt; and two step great grandchildren, Josh and Sabrina, Modesto, CA.

There will be visitation at Westminster Presbyterian Church of Casselton at noon on Friday Sept 21st, 2018 with the service following at 2:00 P.M. The burial will be at the Casselton Cemetery with full military rites by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4655, Casselton of which he was an active life member. He was also a life member of the Disabled American Vets, Post #1, Fargo, ND and the Red River Valley Coin Club, Fargo, ND. In lieu of memorials, please consider making a donation to your local Veterans of Foreign War chapter or to the DAV, the Disabled American Veteran, of which dad was a member of.
