HARDY Jr., Arthur J. “Art”, 95, left this world on Tuesday, February 19, 2019 to be with his true love, Pauline. He was born in Cincinnati, OH to Arthur J. Sr. and Natalie “Tillie”. He moved back to Louisville at an early age.

Art attended St. X High School then enlisted in the U.S. Navy at age 17. He was stationed in the Pacific area from 1942 until 1944. He spent time in Midway, Guadalcanal, Solomon Islands and Saipan, where he was a radio gunner in the dive bomber squadron.

He entered the U.S. Post Office in 1945, serving 36 years as a letter carrier. In time, he was a commander of the American Legion Post 278, a life-time member of the VFW, a KY colonel, a 70 year member of the NALC Branch 14 and member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church.

Art is survived by his daughter, Sherrie Lee Freitag; son, Michael Hardy (Janice); step-son, Tony Martin (Phyllis); grandchildren, Shawn Freitag (Toni), Holli Blevins (Will), Beth Long and Tony Martin II (Allison); 7 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren. His celebration of life Mass will be held 10 a.m. Friday at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, 7335 Southside Dr. with burial in Resthaven Memorial Park.
