Obituary for Mr. Arthur J. Cowart Cowart – Arthur “Art” J. Cowart, age 91, of Jacksonville, Florida passed away May 24, 2018 at home with his loving family by his side. He was born June 9, 1926 in Baxter, Florida to the late Arthur W. Cowart and Willa Mae Crews Cowart. Art left the Okefenokee Swamp walking to Macclenny at age 11.

He worked various jobs until moving to Jacksonville at age 13 where he found a job at a grocery store delivering groceries. He was an entrepreneur at heart and with time and a lot of hard work he was able to own several businesses in the roofing, sheet metal, restaurant and real-estate industries. Art was an antique car enthusiast and enjoyed hunting.

Art is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Alvin Jean Cowart; sisters, Gertrude Taylor, Louise Bright, and Mildred Leonard; and former wife, Elizabeth Cowart, mother to Judi and Greg. Art is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Rebecca Cowart of Jacksonville, FL; sons, Jason C. (Kerry) Cowart and Greg Cowart both of Jacksonville, FL; daughter, Judi (Mike) Newman of Jacksonville, FL; sister, Francis Roble of CA; brothers, T.J. (Jean) Cowart of Wewahitchka, FL, and Ralph (Pam) Johnson of Jacksonville, FL; grandchildren, Dawn (Jason) Hancock, Shannon (Rick Butler) Cowart, Shaun (Tia) Cowart, Christina (Austin) Smith, Cierra Cowart, Dalton Cowart; great grandchildren, Kaitlyn Hancock, Philip Hancock, Evan Grimes, Colton Smith, and Nyla Cowart; many nieces, nephews and cousins in Florida and California. A Celebration of Art’s Life will be held on Sunday, May 27, 2018 at 3:00 p.m. at V. Todd Ferreira Funeral Services with Pastor Samuel Bennett officiating.

Interment will follow at Taylor Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service at the funeral home. The arrangements are under the care of V. Todd Ferreira Services, 250 N Lowder St., Macclenny, FL 32063.
