Obituary for Mrs. Laverne Edwards Edwards – Laverne Edwards, age 83, of Gainesville, Florida passed away on Sunday, May 27, 2018 at E.T. York Care Center in Gainesville. She was born in Brooker, Florida on June 14, 1934 to the late Evan W. Hodges, Sr. and Ruby Green Hodges. Laverne was a resident of Bradford County most of her life.

She attended Bradford High School where she met the love of her life, Carl Theodore Edwards. Shortly after graduating, Carl and Laverne were happily married on June 1, 1952. Laverne and Carl were married for 53 years and in that time, they lovingly raised their two daughters, Linda and Sandra, and enjoyed helping with many grandchildren.

Laverne was a Homemaker for many years until she went to work for Alachua County School Board as a Secretary. She dedicated 15 years with the school system before retiring. Laverne was an amazing wife, mother and grandmother.

She enjoyed sewing and cross stitch and thoroughly enjoyed making clothing for her daughters. Laverne even made Linda and Sandra’s prom dresses and bridesmaid dresses. She also enjoyed gardening and cake decorating, but most of all she loved her family.

Laverne was preceded in death by her loving husbands, Carl Theodore Edwards and Leon Odom; her brother, E.W. Hodges, Jr., her sisters, Doris Rowe and Veleeta Lovelice; her grandson, Scott Bennett; and her son-in-law, Joey Bennett. Laverne is survived by her loving daughters, Linda Bennett of Brooker, FL and Sandra Hazen of Jacksonville, FL; her sister, Bobbie (Dan) Kiner of GA; her grandchildren, Kyle (Katrina) Bennett, Stephen (Jenny) Hazen, Matt (Joni) Bennett, and Daniel (Alexis) Hazen; and her great grandchildren, Jack Hazen, Chase Bennett, Carter Bennett, William Hazen, Harper Hazen, and Hollis Hazen. A Celebration of Laverne’s Life will be held on Tuesday, May 29, 2018 at 7:00 pm at Brooker Baptist Church with Pastor Terry Cranford and Pastor Ken Weaver officiating.

A private interment was held at Dedan Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 29, 2018 from 6:00 – 7:00 pm at the church. Arrangements are under the care and direction of V. Todd Ferreira Funeral Services and Archie Tanner Memorial Chapel, Starke, Fl.
