Austin’s Obituary Austin Jackson, 87, of Mullins passed away at his home on Sunday, May 19, 2019. He was born in Horry County on February 14, 1932, a son of the late Aubrey B. Jackson and Tressie Todd Jackson. Austin loved animals and especially the horses that he raised on his farm, Jackson Farms.

He passed this love and legacy of horses on to his children and grandchildren. He loved Sunday afternoon horse rides with his family and friends and going to horse sales and shows. He also loved the land and spent many hours farming the land and raising livestock.

In later years, he also shared his love of the land with others through excavation. Austin loved his family and had to be a strong man, having lost three daughters in his lifetime. He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army.

In addition to his parents, Austin was predeceased by his three beloved daughters, Gloria Bell, Pam J. Owens, and Angela J. Shelley, a granddaughter, Lisa Chocolate, and three brothers, Earl, Frank, and James Jackson. He is survived by his wife, Lois Milligan Jackson; a daughter, Phyllis J. Luff (Roland), a grandson who was like a son, Brian Wallace (Angela); three brothers, Bruce Jackson of Loris, Brooks Jackson (Patricia) and Eugene Jackson (Susie) all of Green Sea; three sisters, Lois Summerford, Flora Mae Simmons of Florence, and Louise Martin of Loris; four grandchildren, Brian Wallace (Angela) of Mullins, Derek Bell (Brie) of Columbia, Justin Altman (Ashleigh) of Lugoff, and Brittany Shelley of Mullins; seven great-grandchildren and a special great-grandchild, Bree Wallace. A graveside service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 22, 2019 at Devotion Gardens in Mullins with Reverend Steve Small officiating.

The family will receive friends at the cemetery following the service. Meares Funeral Home of Mullins is handling the arrangements. If you would like to remember Austin, the family suggests that memorials be made in his memory to the William Jennings Bryan Dorn VA Medical Center, 6439 Garner’s Ferry Road, Columbia, South Carolina 29209.
