Barbara’s Obituary Big Rapids – Barbara Ann Pettit, 88, of Big Rapids, passed away Sunday, January 13, 2019, at Metron of Big Rapids, where she was a resident for the past 10 years. She was born July 14, 1930, in Big Rapids, the daughter of Ernest and Dorothy (Grzybowski) Fredrick. Barbara was a lifelong resident of Big Rapids and attended Big Rapids Schools.

On June 19, 1948, Barbara married Carl D. Pettit. Together they raised their 5 children. She was a homemaker who enjoyed gardening and preserving the fruits and vegetables from those gardens.

Barbara also enjoyed sewing, and volunteered for many charities and acted as a Cub Scout leader. In what little spare time she had, she loved camping and fishing with her family. Barbara was preceded in death by her husband Carl in 2010.

She is survived by her son, John (Mary) Pettit; daughters, Joyce (Ben) Kinser, Sandra (Tom) Laus, Janet Bowman, and Susan (Seldon) Ross; brother Ronny (Nelda) Fredrick; sister Lois Gross; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her son-in-law Maurice “Butch” Bowman and a stillborn son. The family would like to thank everyone at Metron of Big Rapids for the wonderful care given to Barbie.

Also, a big thanks goes out to Heartland Hospice for all their support and loving care. Private services will take place this spring at Pine Plains Cemetery, where Barbara will be laid to rest next to Carl. Care and arrangements entrusted to the Mohnke Funeral Home in Big Rapids.

Memorials in her name may be made for Heartland Hospice, with envelopes available at the funeral home.
