Barbara Hilyer Locklar, 87, of Phenix City, AL passed away peacefully Sunday morning, October 14, 2018 at the Columbus Hospice House in Columbus, GA. A celebration of life funeral service will be held at 11:00 am EST Tuesday morning at Vance Memorial Chapel (Vance Brooks Funeral home) in Phenix City with Rev. Robert Goodman and Rev.

Jimmy McClain officiating. A private interment will follow at Lakeview Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral from 10 – 11 am EST on Tuesday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Locklar was October 11, 1931 in Phenix City, AL, daughter of the late Grover Cleveland Hilyer, Sr. and Adley Brown Hilyer. She worked for First Federal Savings & Loan for 23 years. She was a member of the Crawford Homemakers and Community Leaders Club, and Keep Young Group at Summerville Baptist Church.

She was a member of Summerville Baptist Church for most of her life. She enjoyed volunteering and giving back to her community. She loved spending time with her friends and family.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Gordon Locklar, sister, Betty Hilyer Lee, and a brother, Grover Cleveland Hilyer, Jr Mrs. Locklar is survived by her daughters, Lynn McClung of Enterprise, AL, Karen Garner and husband Don of Salem, AL, and Betsy Elvington and husband Ronnie of Phenix City, AL; (11) grandchildren, Jonah McClung, Megan Burkes and husband Jason, Justin McClung, Joy Speigner and husband Kris, Blake Blair, Braxton Garner, Maggie Garner, Nathan Wood, Jonathan Wood, Karley Elvington, and Belle Elvington, and (5) great grandchildren, Conner McClung, Devon Teeter, Ansley Burkes, Adley Burkes, and Capps Bukes, numerous nieces and nephews, extended loving family, and many caring friends. In Lieu of flowers, the family request contributions to Summerville Baptist Church.
