Barbara Jean Martinsen, 91, of La Porte, Indiana passed away Thursday, May 24, 2018. Barbara was born November 22, 1926 in La Porte, Indiana to Owner Z. and Edith (Zeller) New. On July 12, 1947, Barbara married Walter Martinsen who preceded her in death on July 5, 1994.

She was a homemaker. Barbara was a fun loving and happy person. She loved spending time with family, painting, doing crafts, reading and baking for the holidays.

Barbara was a former member of St. John’s Church and she attended Tracy Church. She also was a chaperone for the drum and bugle corp. Barbara is survived by three sons, Greg Martinsen of Chicago, Illinois, Scott (Beverly) Martinsen and Kevin (Susan) Martinsen both of La Porte, Indiana; nine grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren.

She is the last of ten siblings. A memorial service will be at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 29, 2018, at Immanuel Lutheran Church: New Tracey, 8705 S. 100 East, Hamlet, Indiana 46532. Reverend David Albertin will officiate.

Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. prior to the service in the church. A reception will follow the service in the church fellowship hall. Frank L. Keszei Funeral Home, Essling Chapel, La Porte, is in charge of arrangements.
