Barbara Jean Sharpe, 83, of Arvonia, went to be with the Lord on July 20, 2018. She was born on September 12, 1934 in Buckingham County, a daughter of the late Sidney Toney and Mamie (Duncan) Oliver. She was the widow of her lifelong love and husband of more than 52 years, James “Buck” Sharpe.

A hard worker until the young age of 78, she was a beloved face in the community while she worked at Agnes’ Market and Super Dollar. Always smiling and happy to share an encouraging word or act of kindness, she became “Granny” to everyone in the community. Her family is proud that everyone who met her got to see her love shine through the way they did.

As a loving devoted mother and grandmother, Jean is survived by her two sons; Wayne Sharpe of Powhatan, and Mike Sharpe and wife Linda of Arvonia; one granddaughter, Ashley Shumaker and husband Jamie of Dillwyn; and two great-grandchildren, Evan and Layla Shumaker. She also leaves behind one sister, Virginia (Ruth) Sharpe and a host of beloved nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Jean was preceded in death by one brother, Aubrey Toney.
