Obituary for Barbara Karen Hickey Barbara Karen Hickey, 72 of Mableton, Georgia, passed away January 2, 2019. Barbara was the owner of The Etiquette School of Atlanta from 2000 until her death. She was founder and Chairwoman of the Coalition of Cobb County Business Associations, Board member of the Keep It in Cobb Committee and a member of the Cobb Chamber of Commerce.

She was chairwoman of the Marietta Kiwanis Business and Public Affairs Committee, President of the South Cobb Business Association, President of the Cobb County Republican Women’s Club and President of the Georgia Federation of Republican Women. Barbara was a member of the Cobb Schools Superintendent’s Business Advisory Board, a board member of Keep Cobb Beautiful and a board member of Neighborhood Safety Commission. She was the founder of Cobb Diaper Day, since 2008, coordinating the donation of 100,000 diapers each year.

In 2007, she graduated from Leadership Cobb. In 2013, she received the Mack Henderson Public Service Award and in 2018 she was voted South Cobb’s Citizen of the Year. Survivors include her husband James L. “Jim” Hickey, son Sean E. Rowe (Cecilia), daughter Mary L. Salm (Ryan), sons Ryan P. Hickey and Kyle J. Hickey, sister Diana Jandke (Walt), brothers, James E. Hlastala (Elaine), Stephen M. Hlastala (Carol), Robert A. Hlastala (Lisa), grandchildren Sean William Rowe, Michael Ryan Salm, Harrison Alexander Rowe, and Emily Lorraine Salm, nieces and nephews.

. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30am Tuesday, January 8, 2019 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 4465 Northside Drive, NW, Atlanta 30327 with Monsignor Edward Dillon officiating. Burial will be at 11:00am Wednesday, January 9, 2019 in Georgia National Cemetery, Canton, GA.

Visitation will be held Monday, January 7, 2019, from 4 to 7pm with a prayer service at 7pm at Mayes Ward Dobbins, Historic Marietta Chapel.
