Barbara Jane Petersen (nee: Oley) passed away peacefully on Friday, March 8, 2019, at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Jersey City to the late Ruth (nee: Minzer) and Jake Oley, where she attended Our Lady of Victories and St. Dominic Academy, graduating as salutatorian. She moved to Bayonne, where she was long time resident, with her husband and children.

Barbara was a bookkeeper for Hudson Awing & Sign Company for many years; retiring in 2017. She was a lifetime animal lover, a devoted and caring pet owner to many, and a dear friend to any stray that crossed her path. Barbara is survived by her devoted husband, Daniel Petersen; her loving children, Daniel Petersen and Kirsten Wolenski, and her husband, Adam; her cherished grandson, Desmond; dear brother, Frank Oley, and his wife Tammy; her nieces Brooke & Brynn and nephew Frankie; her brother-in-law Kenny Ernst; nephews and nieces, John & Bridget Ernst, Kevin & Cathy Ernst and Kenneth and Elizabeth Ernst.

She is also survived by her Aunt Frances Serronico, cousins, great-nephews and nieces, and many dear friends. Barbara was predeceased by her grandparents, August and Mattie Minzer and Frank and Jean Oley; her sister Gail P. Ernst; and her eternal friend, Ellen Riccio. Visitation will be held at Bayonne Memorial Home, Inc. on Wednesday, March 13, 2019, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A private cremation will follow.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Bayonne Feral Cat Foundation: PO Box 4111 Bayonne, NJ.
