Barbara Sabia Rioux, lifelong Stamford resident, passed away peacefully on December 10th after a courageous battle with cancer. She was 83 years old. Barbara was one of seven children born to the late William and Antoinette (Devito) Sabia.

Born and raised in Stamford, Barbara graduated from Stamford High School and then married the love of her life, Vincent Rioux. He preceded her in death in 1976, along with her daughter, Allyson Rioux, in 1989. She was also predeceased by her brother, James Sabia, Sr. and her sister, Rose Previte.

She is survived by her beloved daughters; Cheryl Tiscia and husband Vincent, Denise Kinne and husband Michael, and Francene Moavero and husband Richard, and blessed with seven grandchildren; Ashley Lowney (Josh), Michael Tiscia, Sean Kinne (Catherine), Ryan Kinne (Alice), Nolan Kinne (Kathryn), Brittany Moavero, and Richard “RJ” Moavero. She also cherished her four great-grandchildren; Declan and Brayden Lowney, Cole Kinne, and Elizabeth Kinne. She also leaves behind two sisters; Angie Maple and Clara Coviello, two brothers; William Sabia, Jr. and wife Carole and Joseph Sabia, along with nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Barbara touched the lives of many through her kindness and caring. She looked forward to her weekly hair appointments at Haydee’s Salon, attending weekly mass at St. Gabriel’s church, and rooting for her grandchildren at various sporting events. Her favorite pastimes were cheering for the New York Yankees and the UCONN Women’s basketball team.

A wake will be held at Bosak Funeral Home, 453 Shippan Avenue, in Stamford on Thursday, December 13th from 4pm to 8pm. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Cecilia Church, 1184 Newfield Avenue, in Stamford on Friday, December 14th at 11:30am. The interment will follow mass at Queen of Peace Cemetery in Stamford.

Barbara’s family would like to thank the staffs at the Bennett Cancer Center, Stamford Hospital, and Visiting Nurse & Hospice of Fairfield County for their excellent care and compassion.
