Obituary for Mrs. Barbara Ruth Ransom Barbara Ruth Ransom was born on March 23, 1927 in Boston, MA and passed away on March 31, 2018. She is survived by daughter Diane Ransom; son & daughter-in-law, John Carl Ransom and Barbara Mastej; former son-in-law, Michael Charles Polk; grandson, Charles Ransom Polk; granddaughter & husband, Dinah Marlene Polk Sepulveda and Jordan Sepulveda; sister & brother-in-law, Marie and Jack Clark; and sister-in-law Gloria MacDonald; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She grew up in Quincy, MA where she attended high school at the Woodward School for Girls.

She graduated from Mass General Hospital School of Nursing in 1947. While working at the Squantum Naval Base, she fell in love with a sailor named John Harvey Ransom. The couple were married in 1948, and settled in Neptune, NJ.

In addition to being a wife and mother, Barbara worked as a nurse at Monmouth and Jersey Shore Medical Centers. Always very active in her community, Barbara was a member and former president of the Neptune Library Association, a volunteer with the Mental Health Association of Monmouth County, a Cub Scout den mother, and a loyal Parishioner of Holy Innocents Catholic Church for over sixty years. Over the last 15 years, she regularly attended social dinners at The Elks Club in Neptune, where she enjoyed many strong friendships.

Barbara had a special love for animals, especially cats, and was known to capture ferals to have them spayed or neutered before finding them homes or releasing them back into the wild. She continuously donated to numerous charitable animal and human rights organizations. During her 91 years, Barbara was filled with a boundless curiosity about people, places and things.

She had a keen eye for finding unique antiques, vintage items and art during her excursions, and has left a large legacy of these collectibles to her loved ones. She sensed the history in everyday things and distinguished objects alike. Ultimately family and friends were Barbara’s first priority.

In turn, she will be sorely missed by all those she leaves behind. A service will be held in her honor on Saturday April 7, 1:00pm, at Ely Funeral Home, 3316 NJ-33, Neptune City, NJ 07753.
