Jeanette Dorothy Masucci, January 02, 1924 — April 13, 2018

Obituary for Mrs. Jeanette Dorothy Masucci Jan left us on Friday, April 13, 2018. Jan was born in Beth Israel Hospital in Newark, NJ. She grew up in Irvington and graduated from Irvington High School and Berkeley Business School while living in Maplewood, NJ with her parents.

She and a friend opened an office in downtown Newark and started a secretarial service for professionals that were starting out in the business world. When she was a bridesmaid at her cousins wedding she met her future husband, Ferdinand David Masucci, Jr They were married in St. Joseph’s church in Maplewoood where she lived at that time.

When her three children were in college, they moved to their summer home in Shark River Hills permanently. Jan owned and operated a Boutique Shop on 5th Avenue in Asbury Park. She was an avid volunteer.

It started when her husband’s uncle who was blind and president of the NJ foundation for the blind called her for help. She continued her volunteer work at the NJ Association for Lifelong Learning as President, the Metropolitan Opera Guild to raise money for the Metro Lyric Opera Guild under the direction of Madame Tognoli; Henry J. Pollack Auxiliary of Monmouth University Library Association, Court St. Elizabeth 1486, Catholic Daughters of America at Avon by the Sea, Jersey Shore Woman’s Club, J.F. Ackerman Federation (Yesterday’s Best Thrift Shop), and Jersey Shore Arts Center in Ocean Grove. It gave her much joy to volunteer as a personal shopper for the Thrift Shop which she did for many years.

Jan was predeceased by her husband, Ferd. She is survived by her daughter Janet Masucci of Gill, Massachusetts, son David and his wife Marilyn of Scotch Plains, son Donald and his wife Kathleen of South Brunswick, granddaughter Anne and her husband Kevin Sofield, and great grandchildren Francesca and Jasper of England and step grandchildren Jessica Pearson, Jeffery Hensal, Justin Hensal, Elia DePaola, and John Pelligrino. Service will be private followed by cremation.
