Obituary for Barbara Lauster Barbara Lauster, 74, died Friday, July 27, 2018 at Princeton Medical Center in Princeton, New Jersey. Mrs. Lauster was born July 24, 1944 in Brooklyn, New York to the late Mario and Filomena (Serpico) Quattrone. She was raised in Brooklyn and relocated to Somerset in 1977 before settling in Monroe.
Barbara had an extensive career in book and magazine publishing that spanned over 35 years. She was proud to be one of the women who broke through the corporate glass ceiling. In her retirement, she was a member of the Concordia Rock & Rollers and planned their dance parties and events for many years.
She was also a founding member of the Concordia Italian American Club and volunteered for ORT, an organization that assists students in their education and career aspirations. Barbara was also the author of “Barbara’s Beat” in the Concordia newspaper and was excited about the opportunity to share her humorous thoughts and observations with her neighbors. Barbara loved dancing which is something she took every opportunity to do.
She was a formidable Scrabble player and loved board and card games of all varieties. Her favorite hobby was cooking and planning parties and events with friends and family. Everyone who was lucky enough to be invited to her table was treated to a meal that they never forgot.
She was a gifted, self-taught at-home chef whose spanakopita was, according to her restaurant-owning friends, the best they’d ever eaten. And her favorite place to be was walking on the beach, collecting shells and admiring the ocean. More than anything, she loved spending time with her beloved family and friends.
Mrs. Lauster was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin Lauster. She is survived by her daughter, Nicole Dickinson and son-in-law, Adam Dickinson; her sister, Diane Carroll; her grandchildren, Michael, Evan and Miranda. A Celebration of Barbara’s life will be held on October 13, 2018 at 11am at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Somerset Hills, 123 East Cliff St. Somerville, NJ.
