Bart J. Bremmer, formerly of Midland, Michigan died during the early morning hours of April 21, 2018 in Grand Haven. Bart was born in Widdinxveen, the Netherlands on September 4, 1930, exactly one year before his wife, Anita Teekens. Their marriage almost didn’t happen on account of Bart and Anita belonging to competing branches of the Reformed churches.
Bart’s conviction that their common Christian faith should bring people together, not separate won Anita over and they were married on December 2, 1953. After their marriage, Bart and Anita immigrated to the United States, settling first in Grand Rapids, then moving to Midland in 1957. Bart’s 35 year career with Dow Chemical Company and his innate curiosity, optimism, and diligence produced more than 30 patented inventions.
Bart’s buoyant conviction that something good is always just around the bend and love of the outdoors led to many adventures which resulted in his young family finding themselves on a two-track in the family station wagon. The Bremmer family explored most of America and parts of Canada with an Apache camper in tow. Bart’s eternally springing hope found generous expression in his support of many young entrepreneurs.
His wide-ranging interests also led to a love for the arts, literature, history, and business. Bart logged over 1000 swimming miles at the Midland community center, followed by vigorous conversation in the steam bath. The of Bart’s wonderful life is his faith in a good and loving God, revealed to us through Jesus Christ.
Bart demonstrated his faith in many ways, serving the church as an elder, project team leader, and encourager of pastors most of his adult life. He also generously supported various non-profit ministries, including 23 years on the board of Christian Adventures. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Anita; daughter Jacqueline H. (Russ) Bloem, Grand Rapids, sons, Pastor Randy (Tracy) Bremmer, Grand Haven, and Jeff (Carol) Bremmer Midland.
Also surviving are eight grandchildren; Michael (Sarah) Bloem, Matthew (Kristie) Bloem, Jordan (Megan) Bloem, Rachael Bloem, Daniel, Anna, Natalie, and Grace Bremmer, one brother, and one sister, many nieces and nephews. He was preceded into eternal life by his grandson Nicholas Bremmer. A Funeral Service for Bart will be Tuesday, April 24, 2018 at 11:00 am at Trinity Reformed Church in Grand Haven.
