Obituary for Benedict L. Brumleve Benedict Lee Brumleve, born December 14, 1933 passed away peacefully on September 21 2018. A Catholic, he graduated from Holy Spirit grade school, St. Xavier High School and Indiana University. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a parishioner of the Church of the Holy Spirit.
Ben was past president of Cardinal Carryor Inc., former vice president of material Handling Equipment Dealers Association and a past K.E.S.A. board member. He served as former president and board member of the Indian Hills Village Association, Indiana University Alumni Association, Delta Tau Delta Fraternity and St. Xavier High School Alumni Association.
Ben was also a past Executive’s Club of Louisville member, Younger Dance & Dinner Club participant with his late wife Gert, former Member of the City Saleman’s Club and Clark Equipment President’s Club. For many years, Ben was a member of Big Springs Country Club and the Cherokee Tennis Association. His passion for education was evident in his board member positions both at the de Paul School and the West End School.
Ben enjoyed anything that involved learning, traveling and moving. He was an avid golf and tennis player, voracious reader and lifelong history buff. Ben loved to cheer on his IU Hoosiers football team and did so for over 60 years.
He found his greatest pleasure in his family. Ben was born in Cleveland, Ohio, son of the late Clarence C. Brumleve and Ruth Watkins Miles. He was also preceded in death by his loving wife and mother of his children, Kathryn Cosgrove Brumleve and loving wife Gertrude Martin Brumleve; and a sister, Martha Brumleve Marcus (Calvin).
He is survived by his sons, Michael Brumleve (Halle), Doug Brumleve (Linda), daughters, Amy Brumleve Miller (Rob) of Cincinnati and Megan Brumleve Theisen (Jake); grandchildren, Kathryn Paige, Ben, Bosland (Bo), Abraham (Abe), Cole, Brooke and Audrey; and many nieces and nephews. His Funeral Mass will be Celebrated 10 a.m. Friday at The Church of the Holy Spirit, 3345 Lexington Road with burial in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 3 to 8p.m. Thursday at Ratterman Funeral Home, 3711 Lexington Road “in St. Matthews”.
