Obituary for Bernice DeEtta Bellows (Owens) Bernice DeEtta Bellows- age 100 of Lake, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by family on October 24, 2018. Bernice was born on November 10, 1917, to parents Edd and Emily (Bates) Owens, in Coldwater Township on the family farm. After High School she continued her education earning a College Business Degree.
On January 3, 1941, she was married to Edwin Dale Bellows in Ohio and together they raised 2 children. She worked at Thayer Ice Cream, General Motors/AC Delco, Kelly Services; was a Social Worker, and also a Realtor. Having a very daring and adventurous spirit, she traveled the world, climbed mountains, and went spelunking.
Bernice loved to square dance, adored her animals, loved to garden and bake pies. Her friends and family considered it a privilege and joy to know and love her. She will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by her daughter Karen Bellows of Lake, daughter-in-law Christine Bellows of Swartz Creek, three grandchildren: Jennifer Owens of MN, Sean Bellows and wife Yoshiko of Ann Arbor, Courtney Bellows of Swartz Creek; five great grandchildren: Taylen, Emily, Nicholas, Miro, and Conan; and sister-in-law Betty Beutler of Traverse City.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband in May of 1996, her son Douglas in June of 2018, brothers Basil and Ed Owens, and sisters Eula LaLonde, Erma Scott, Eunice Cummings. A service is planned for Monday, October 29th, 2018, at 7PM, at the Campbell-Stocking Funeral Home in Farwell. Rev.
Joseph Atchinson will officiate. Family and friends may visit from 4PM until 8PM. Bernice’s family would like to extend a special thank you to Bernice’s niece; Sandra and husband Jacques Coon, Chiela Denslow from the Commission on Aging, Jennifer Furdock, Cheryl Sunday, and Colleen Vogel, Visiting Nurses, Hospice, friends and family that visited and provided support.
