Bertha Mae Peterson was born on May 23, 1946 in Darlington County. She was the loving daughter of the late Blease Nelson and Blanch McKnight Peterson. She received her education in the public schools in the area.

She attended The Church in the Lord Jesus Christ of the Apostles Doctrine, Inc. Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, James Peterson, Jr., of Hartsville, SC; three children, Martha McCall of Hartsville, SC, Jimmy Peterson of Lydia, SC and Angela (Timothy) Singletary of Florence, SC; One brother, Isaac Peterson, Sr. of Lydia, SC; a special family member Patricia A. McCall of Hartsville, SC; Eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; a host of other close relatives and friends.
