She was preceded in death by her sisters, Frances Haden Jordan, and Clara Lois Haden Ware, and her brothers, Patrick Haden, Robert Haden, and Trice Haden. Bessie Lynn was born on August 20, 1924 in Fife, Virginia. She went to work for the Federal Government where she met and later married Roy Barnett on August 20, 1954, her birthday.
She became a full-time homemaker, raising their three children. She and Roy enjoyed trailer camping for many years with their children. They were actively involved in the formation and expansion of the Glen Allen Youth Center.
Bessie Lynn was a devoted Christian and long term active member at Glen Allen Baptist Church. She had a life-long love of animals. After retirement, Bessie Lynn and Roy enjoyed traveling and socializing with their friends in the Holiday Ramblers.
For decades, Bessie Lynn’s extended family gathered at her home for an annual family reunion. In honor of this tradition, the family will receive friends from 3 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, December 26, 2018 at the West Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 11020 West Broad Street, Glen Allen, VA 23060. A funeral will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, December 27, 2018 at Glen Allen Baptist Church, 3028 Mountain Road, Glen Allen, VA 23060.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Ron Barnett and Julianne Homokay of Los Angeles, CA; her son and daughter-in-law, Dan Barnett and Kendall Barnett; her daughter and son-in-law, Julie B. and J. Rogers Christopher; and her six grandchildren, Ashley Barnett, Bradley Barnett, Addison Joseph, Corbin Christopher, Cate Christopher, and Carolynn Christopher; and her great-grandson, Caleb Barnett.
