Bessie Washington was born November 24, 1932 in Sherrill, Arkansas, to the late Luther and Ada Murphy. Bessie was called home to be with the Lord on March 21st 2019. She was the 4th of 9 children, of which 4 have moved on to be with the Lord.

Bessie received her formal education in Jefferson County, Arkansas. She later moved to Kansas City, Kansas at the age of 15 where she later entered the work force as an employee of General Motors. In the 1960’s, Bessie married Charles Edward Washington and moved to Pasadena, California where she became self-employed as a domestic worker in the greater San Marino, California area.

To the union two sons were born, Ray Edward Washington and Timothy L. Washington. While in California Bessie was a member of Pasadena Church of God, formally known as the Neighborhood Church of God, and Harvest Time Ministries. There she participated in many church ministries.

Bessie rarely asked for much and if you ever asked her if she needed anything, she would tell you, “I just need a new body”, and now she is in the presence of our Glorious Lord forever more with the new body he promised! For we know that when this earthly tent we live in is taken down (that is, when we die and leave this earthly body), we will have a house in heaven, an eternal body made for us by God himself and not by human hands. 2 We grow weary in our present bodies, and we long to put on our heavenly bodies like new clothing.

3 For we will put on heavenly bodies; we will not be spirits without bodies! 2 Corinthians 5: 1-3. Amen.

Bessie was a loving, devoted mother, aunt, cousin and devout church member that will be missed by all. She leaves to cherish her memories her son Timothy L. Washington from Pasadena, California, three sisters Vera Peters, Ella Murphy, Roselee Jackson and Charles Murphy and a host of nieces and nephews, cousins, relatives, church family, neighbors and friends. Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, March 30, 2019 at Bethel Family Worship Center.

Visitation 10:00 A.M. Interment Highland Park Cemetery.
