Leetonia – Betty Jane Stokes Wurster, 88, of Leetonia, died, Tuesday, July 17, 2018 at Salem Regional Medical Center. She was born, July 27, 1929 in Leetonia, a daughter of the late Lawrence and Stella Barnes Stokes. Betty worked for the family business, Wurster Excavating, for many years until retiring in 1985.

She was a very active member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Leetonia, where she was involved in the church as a member of the choir, teaching Sunday school and serving on the alter guild. Betty was a member of the Salem motorcycle club and spent a lot of her time gardening and working. She loved to spend time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren and was always a part of all their activities.

Betty was known to be a supportive part of the Leetonia community and was always there for anyone that needed her. Her husband, Harold “Corky” Wurster, whom she married January 23, 1949, died February 15, 1984. Betty is survived by a daughter, Shelly (Paul) Moore of Leetonia; four foster sons, Richard (Linda) Oxley of Leetonia, Ernie (Rhonda) Bertschman of Summerville, SC, John Hancock of Paris, TN, and James Miller of Australia; two sisters, Wilma “Sissy” Bingham of Columbiana and Marcella Keller of Leetonia; eight granddaughters, Ashley (Phillip) Cibula, Tabatha (Dustin Trummer) Turney, Melissa Lynn Mellott, Laura Lynn Oxley, Michelle (Brie Snead) Bertschman, Brea Moore, Jessica Lemaster and Tonya (Steven) Kilpatrick; nine grandsons, Bryce Turney, Drew Turney, Nikk Bertschman, Chris (Amber) Bertschman, Dusty Bertschman, Steven Burnham, Shaun Hancock, Chad Oxley and Tommy Oxley; twenty-one great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a son, Charles Oxley; three sisters, Pauline Moore, Stella Mae Stokes, and Lorene Stokes and six brothers, Harold, Wilbur, Donald, Lawrence, Elmer, and Earl Stokes. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, July 23, 2018 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Leetonia, with Pastor Kari Lankford officiating. Calling hours will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 22, 2018 at Woods-Rettig Funeral Home, Leetonia and one hour prior to the services at the church on Monday.

Burial will take place at Oakdale Cemetery, Leetonia. Memorial donations in honor of Betty may be made to the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Memorial Fund. View this obituary and send condolences to the family at www.
