OBITUARY Betty Jean Baker March 1, 1926 – January 15, 2019 Betty was born in Oklahoma City, to William Jarden Jacks and Elsie Elizabeth Jacks nee Freeman. She was a third-generation Oklahoman, and proudly lived her life in South Oklahoma City, graduating from Capitol Hill High School. WWII marked two of the most significant events in her life – her marriage and career.

She met our Dad, Kimber Mire Baker (Cedar Bayou, TX), on a blind date at the OKC Zoo. In addition, she began her 37-year career at Southwestern Bell Telephone Company in the Accounting Department. Betty and Kimber were married in San Diego, CA, on March 9, 1944.

Kimber was stationed there with the US Navy, and Betty returned to OKC when he was deployed to the Pacific Theater. After a brief time living in Dad’s hometown after the war, they settled in OKC, and raised their family, William Jerry Baker, Kathryn Elaine McCreary, and Van Alan Jacks. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, our Dad, and her only brother, John Robert Jacks.

She is survived by Jerry (Teressa) of Katy, TX; Kathy (Steve) and Van (Rhonda) of OKC, along with six grandchildren, Andy (Melanie) Baker, Craig (Michelle) Woodruff, Colin McCreary, and Alannah, Elizabeth and Ian Jacks; as well as five great-grandchildren, and extended family. We would like to express our heartfelt thanks to the staff of Concordia Assisted Living and Skilled Nursing, as well as the Mercy Hospice team. Betty asked that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to her ‘pet’ charities – OKC Animal Welfare, Central Oklahoma Humane Society or the local ASPCA.

We will forever miss our beloved Mom/Grandma/BB; but as she asked us, we will be happy that we had so many beautiful years, and our grief will be comforted with the trust that she’ll always be near.
