Betty Jean Gardner, 76, of Wausau passed away June 13, 2018 at Aspirus Wausau Hospital. She was born September 27, 1941, in Wausau, the daughter of the late Gordon and Mary (Jankovich) Walters. Betty was a Newman High graduate and went on to work at Wausau Insurance until her retirement 11 years ago.

It is impossible to illiterate all the positive influence her life and legacy will continue to illuminate for generations to come. Being sharp as a tac, her detail – oriented nature was a blessing to many and a fault to others, she enriched family and friends staying on top of any relevant event, such as weather, product, health and security issues around the globe. Survivors include her son, Todd (Consuelo) Gardner, San Jose, CA; granddaughter, Trivity Gardner, San Jose, CA; sisters, Carol (Richard) Larson, of LaCrosse; June (Duane) Bonke, of Merrill; brother, Dave (Denise Travis) Walters, of Wausau; sister-in-laws Joan Walters, of Rib Mountain and Barbara Bonke, of Wausau, many nieces and nephews.

Betty was further preceded in death by three brothers Tom, Rick and Brian, and a sister Janet. Her family would like to mention she cherished friends Arnie Eberhardy, of Wausau, Brenda Holmes, of Milwaukee, Kaye Schade, of Wausau, Donna Wanta, of Wausau, Shannon Papendorf, of Wausau, Peggy Ender, of Wausau and more. Her philosophy in life she shared with her son included trust in God, love life, dance to live and never give up.

The funeral service will be at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday June 23, 2018 at the Helke Funeral Home, 302 Spruce St., Wausau. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will be at Restlawn Memorial Park, Town of Texas, following funeral service.
