Betty Jean Johnson Wood, 86, of Bryan St., Kannapolis, NC, passed away Wednesday, May 2, at CHS – Northeast. She was born March 27, 1932 in Cabarrus County to the late Willie James Johnson and the late Geneva Wilson Johnson. Betty graduated from the G.W. Carver High School and Johnson C. Smith University.

She was a retired educator and a member of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority. Betty was a member of Bethel AME Zion Church where she had served as Vice-President of the Usher Board. Services will be held Saturday, May 12 at Bethel AME Zion Church.

Visitation will be 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM, with funeral services at 2:00 PM. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Carr Wood, Sr. Those left to cherish fond memories include a son, William “Billy” Wood, Jr (Kourtney) of Kannapolis; daughter Beverly Jean Surrall (Terry) of Kannapolis; three grandchildren, Christopher J. Wood, Terri Jean Surrall, Kyana M. Wood; two sisters, Audrey J. Nesbit of Upper Marlboro, MD, Grace Joan Johnson Bryant of Kannapolis, Sisters-in-law, Mildred Johnson, Sallie Johnson, Martha Foster; special niece Deborah Merritt(Sam) of Bel Camp MD; close friends, Larry Johnson, Cora Cunningham and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins; and friends.
