Betty Jean Powers, 85, of Wharton went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 16, 2019. She was born May 12, 1933 at Prenter, WV to the late William and Zelma Midkiff Nidiffer. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, James Nidiffer, Charles Nidiffer and Paul Nidiffer; and sister, Helen Hope Graham.

Betty is survived by her daughter, Beverly (Tom) O’Brien of Ladson, SC and Rebecca Powers Grant of Wharton; brothers, William “Billy” Nidiffer of Kanawha City and Mike (Judy) Nidiffer of Strange Creek; sister, Jackie Booth of Kanawha City; sisters-in-law, Claudia Nidiffer of Ohio and Virginia Nidiffer of Ohio; four grandchildren, Jeremy Pridemore of Alum Creek, Cooper Grant of Wharton, Christopher O’Brien of Ladson, SC, and Ashley O’Brien of Moncks Corner, SC; two great-grandchildren, Addison O’Brien-Fry and Eli O’Brien-Fry of Moncks Corner, SC; several nieces and nephews; and a host of friends. Betty was a member of the Barrett Church of the Nazarene at Wharton where she loved to serve the Lord and sing. She was a six year resident of Hillcrest Nursing Facility in Danville where she loved attending church, singing, and playing Bingo.

The family would like to give special thanks to the entire staff at Hillcrest, the great nurses at Greater Boone Dialysis where she received Dialysis’ three times a week for ten years; and all the employees at Boone County Ambulance Authority for the great care they gave her during transports for nearly eight years. A celebration of her life will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, March 23, 2019 at the Barrett Church of the Nazarene, Wharton. Arrangements by Handley Funeral Home, Danville.
