Funeral service for Bettye Burt Shelley, age 76, of Decatur, will be Sunday, February 24, 2019, 3:00 p.m. at Westmeade Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Scotty Hogan and Rev. Justin McAlpin officiating, and Shelton Funeral Home directing.

The family will receive friends for two hours prior to service at the church. Interment will be in Roselawn Cemetery. Mrs. Shelley, who died Thursday, February 21, 2019, at Huntsville Hospital, was born December 11, 1942, in Franklin County, TN, to Fred Burt and Lucille Morris Burt.

She was preceded in death by her parents. Bettye was an active member of Westmeade Baptist Church for 42 years. She enjoyed planning and cooking Wednesday night dinners and serving on the Hospitality Committee.

She also used her knack for decorating to beautify the church. Four Seasons Garden Club and Bridge Club are organizations she enjoyed. She had a passion for entertaining, decorating, and cooking.

Bettye combined these talents and passions, and opened Shelley’s Iron Gate in 1978. She retired from the restaurant business in 1992, and soon found her greatest joy, being a wonderful grandmother to five grandchildren. She is survived by her loving husband, Mally Shelley of Decatur; one son, Kevin Shelley (Amy) of Decatur; one daughter, Vicki Berry (Douglas) of Huntsville; one brother, Fred Burt (Catherine) of Winchester, TN; three sisters, Bobbye Cox (Don) of Winchester, TN, Freida Money (Charles) of Cowan, TN, and Elizabeth Westbrook (Allen) of Murfreesboro, TN; and five grandchildren, Hunter, Hanna, and Hayden Shelley, and Jordan and Chandler Berry.

Pallbearers will be family and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial donations be made to Westmeade Baptist Church.
