Obituary for Bettye Ruth Fitz Bettye Frey Fitz, age 95, of Nashville and formerly of Robertson County, passed away Wednesday, May 2, 2018 at Woodcrest at The Blakeford. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, May 19, 2018 at 12pm in the chapel of the Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Springfield with Brother David Bradley officiating. Burial of the cremains will follow in the Springfield Memorial Gardens with her grandsons, Chance Livingston, Brett Fitz, Fitz Lassing and Mac Lassing serving as pallbearers.
Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Saturday from 10am until the hour of service at 12pm. Mrs. Fitz was born January 29, 1923 in Coopertown, TN, one of nine children, to the late John Martin “J.M.” and Carrie Justice Frey. She graduated from Coopertown High School, where she never missed a day of school in twelve years.
Country strong from her youth until the day she died, she was also a beautiful lady inside and out, and was voted Miss Robertson County in her teens. She spent twenty years as an Air Force wife residing across the country before retiring with her husband, Bob, back to Springfield, where she lived for the next fifty years. Together they raised six children.
She was an active long-time member of New Chapel Methodist Church in Springfield. An avid golfer, bowler, and seamstress, her greatest love was her family. Her beauty is what you saw first, her love is what you felt immediately.
In addition to her parents Mrs. Fitz is preceded in death by her husband, Robert Ernest Fitz, seven of her siblings, and her son, Bobby Fitz. Mrs. Fitz is survived by her sons, Tony (Yvonne) Fitz of Fairfax, VA, Mike (Jan) Fitz of Apollo Beach, FL and Ron (Bunny) Fitz of Tulsa, OK; daughters, Donna (David) Fitz Livingston of Brentwood and Cindy (Chuck) Fitz Lassing of Nashville; daughter-in-law, Patty Fitz of Lewisburg; brother, Justice “Bud” Frey of Springfield; grandchildren, Chance Livingston, Stephanie Fitz McVicar, Natalie Fitz, Heather Fitz, Brett Fitz, Emily Fitz Abell, Erin Fitz Marshall, Fitz Lassing, Kelly Lassing and Mac Lassing; and 13 great-grandchildren. If so desired memorial contributions may be made New Chapel United Methodist Church.
