Beverly Jean Andersen passed away peacefully in her sleep on October 3, 2018. A celebration of life service will take place on Saturday, October 6, 2018 at 2pm at Johnson County Funeral Chapel and Memorial Gardens, 11200 Metcalf, Overland Park, KS. Bev was preceded in death by her husband Harold of 66 years and her sister.

She is survived by daughter Nancy Pretz (Rick), son Roy Andersen (Valerie), son Dale Andersen (Deanna) and son Gary Andersen (Loretta), 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Bev was born on August 12, 1927 in Omaha, NE. She enjoyed a very close relationship with her older sister Bernice in her youth and throughout her life.

She married Harold Andersen in 1947. They lived in Omaha until being transferred to Kansas City in 1963 because of Harold’s work. Bev was a stay-at-home mom, caring for her family and raising their four children while Harold was away weekly as an over the road truck driver.

She re-entered the workforce as the attendance secretary at Shawnee Mission Northwest High School and then moved to the Shawnee Mission administration office in the payroll department. She retired in 1990 after 21 years of service. Bev’s pride and joy was her family, of whom she was very proud.

She loved spending time with them on weekend camping trips, vacations or family gatherings to celebrate birthdays and holidays. After she and Harold became empty nesters, they enjoyed traveling in their camper and taking cruises. Bev loved telling everyone she had 4 children, 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

She was anxiously awaiting the birth of her15th great-grandchild. Bev cherished her role as mom, grandma, and great-grandma and loved being deeply involved in the life of her family. Bev knew and loved the Lord and lived out her faith attending church, teaching Sunday school and making comfort bags for the homeless.

Bev always had a smile for everyone and made friendships easily. Bev radiated joy to the residents and staff of Park Meadows Retirement Community. Many knew her as the ”hugger”.
