Fern B. Coffin, 104, passed away peacefully in her sleep on November 13, 2018. She was born on a farm in Nevada, Iowa on October 29, 1914 and was preceded in death by her husband, James A. Coffin, whom she married in 1945 upon his return from military service with the US Army Air Corps in Europe Upon her marriage she moved to Prairie Village, Kansas and resided in or around Johnson County, KS until her death. She was a long term member of the Westport Presbyterian Church in Kansas City, MO and then the Shawnee Presbyterian Church in Shawnee, KS.

Fern graduated from the University of Illinois with a Bachelors and a Masters degree in English Literature in 1934 and 1936 respectively. She taught high school English at Melvin High School, Melvin, IL (1937-1940), Urbana High School, Urbana, IL (1940-1945), and in the Shawnee Mission Kansas School District (SM North, SM East, and SM South) from 1955 until retiring in 1980. She is survived by her three children, Jim (Tris) Coffin of Katy, TX; Bob Coffin of Brevard, NC; and Katherine Coffin of Lawrence, KS, 5 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.

In addition she will be missed by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members. The family plans a private memorial service in the Spring of 2019 and requests any donations be made to the Visiting Nurses Association, 200 Main Street, Ste C, Lawrence, KS 66044.
