OBITUARY Billy Phillips LESTER September 23, 1932 – January 3, 2019 Billy P. Lester, 86, passed away January 3, 2019 at Cornerstone Hospice in The Villages, FL. He was preceded in death by his parents W.L. and Ira Lester and his sister Marge Salmon. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Abbie, sons Don (Denise) and Mike (Sharon), grandchildren Blaine (Gina), Drew, Danny, and Janie (Nathan), and great-grandchildren Makenzie, Jack, Sadie, and Oliver.

A Korean War veteran (Air Force), Bill was also a native Memphian. His business career was spent in transportation, having served as traffic manager for several firms, including GlaxoSmithKlein, Hunt-Wesson Foods, and Delta Refining. He was a member of the Memphis Transportation Club and served a term as president.

Bill volunteered for years as a youth baseball and basketball coach for his church. He also was a deacon and long-term Sunday school teacher, most recently at Germantown Baptist Church. Bill was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather and will be missed very much.

Visitation will be Thursday, January 10, 2019 at Memphis Funeral Home, Poplar, at 12:30 pm. The burial will follow at Memorial Park.
