Billy Ray McLeod, 75, of Newport, passed away Wednesday, November 21, 2018, at his home. His funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. on Monday, November 26, 2018, at Munden Funeral Home, officiated by Rev. Jerry Stephenson and Rev.

Marion Bell. Interment will follow at Gethsemane Memorial Park. Billy Ray was born in Smithfield, NC.

He had a 35-year career in law enforcement with the Garner Police Department and the Wake County Sheriff Department. He retired from the North Carolina State Highway Patrol after 25 years of service as 1st Sergeant of Carteret County. He loved the outdoors, especially deer hunting and fishing.

Billy Ray was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend to many. He is survived by his wife, Pansy McLeod, of the home; daughter, Sherrie Rook and husband, Patrick, of Peoria, AZ; son, Chris McLeod and wife, Angie, of Thomasville, NC; step-son, Dale Thompson and wife, Jessie, of Raleigh, NC; 6 grandchildren; and 2 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Carol McLeod; parents, Roy and Grace McLeod; and brother, Steve McLeod.

Family will receive friends from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Monday, November 26, 2018, at Munden Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be sent to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital at 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or Hospice of Carteret County at 302 Medical Park Ct, Morehead City, NC 28557.
