Bonita L. “Bonnie” Gauding, 62, passed on Tuesday, November 13 at Covington Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation in East Palestine. Mrs. Gauding was born on August 23, 1956, in Salem, OH, a daughter of John and Betty Mae (Faulk Coffman) Homan. Bonnie was a graduate of Columbiana High School.

She attended Otterbein College and Youngstown State University where she received her master’s degree in education. She married her childhood sweetheart, Randall “Randy” Gauding on August 20, 1983, and spent many years at his side serving as a pastor’s wife. Bonnie attended First Christian Church in Columbiana.

Mrs. Gauding loved to sing and spent much of her life sharing her love for God through song. She was an active member of the Davis YMCA and loved to attend plays at the Crowne Theater in Columbiana. Bonnie immersed herself in her career teaching special needs students at McGuffey Elementary School where she received many awards.

She was named Youngstown Teacher of the Year in 1992, McGuffey School Teacher of the Year, was the 1992 Ohio Teacher of the Year runner-up, and received Channel 21’s Class Act Award; and was Nationally Board Certified. She leaves to cherish her precious memory her siblings Shirley Baker of Burleson, TX and Daniel Homan of Greenford; her nieces Donna, Janette, and Kim; and nephews Dennis, Christopher, David, and Brandon, and her many friends. Mrs. Gauding was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, brothers Richard and Clinton, and her step-father Dan Mignogna.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 24, 2018 at 12:00 p.m. at Seederly-Mong & Beck Columbiana Chapel, 154 S. Elm St., Columbiana, Ohio 44408. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 11-12:00pm on Saturday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations may be made in Bonnie’s memory to the Davis Family YMCA Scholarship Fund, 45 McClurg Rd.
