OBITUARY Mr. Broxer Collins Jr. July 6, 1938 – October 31, 2018 Broxer Collins Jr. of Tahlequah, OK, passed away October 31st, 2018 in Tahlequah, OK, at the age of 80 years old. He was born July 6th, 1938 in Tahlequah, OK, the son of Broxer Sr. and Pearl (Ryder) Collins. He grew up in the community of Woodall where he attended grade school.

He later graduated from Tahlequah High School in 1957. Upon graduation, he worked at a variety of jobs. He spent 20 years or more working at Mid-Western Nursery and the last 10 years, he worked for Tahlequah Public Schools.

As a boy, Broxer loved to bedevil his sisters and was known to tear up a few of their mud pies. His sister, Ruby, was the only one to ever give him a black eye. On occasion, he would steal a watermelon or two from the neighbor’s garden and sell them so he’d have a little spending money.

As a teen, he thought he’d try his hand at the rodeo. The first bull to buck him off was enough for him. Broxer had a fine singing voice and taught himself to play the guitar and harmonica.

He played in a group and performed in every honkey-tonk from one side of the state to the other. The band even opened for the country singer, John Anderson, one time. Music was in his soul and was his greatest enjoyment in life.

Broxer had five children in total. He loved his children as best he knew how. In the summer, they would cook out and play badminton.

In the winter, they sometimes played board games while enjoying popcorn and soda. Broxer believed in Jesus. He had asked forgiveness of sin for the mistakes he had made in his life and prayed the prayer that never fails.

Broxer is preceded in death by his wife, Helen; his parents, Broxer Sr. and Pearl Collins; son, Perry Collins; brothers, Ray Collins and Clint Collins and sister, Irene Reed. He is survived by a daughter, Annette Beaverson and husband, Ronnie of Tahlequah; a son, Randall Collins and wife, Michele of Tahlequah; daughter, Wanda Roberts and husband, James of North Carolina; and son, Douglas Collins of Oklahoma City. His legacy lives on through his grandchildren, Brianna (Collins) Cook, Mariah and Kendall Collins; Daniel, Jazzmine and Jayson Roberts.

Additionally, he is survived by a sister, Ruby Hamilton of Fort Gibson; sister, Lucille Moore and husband Tommy of Tahlequah; sister, Corene Fisher and husband, Shrimp of Tahlequah; one sister-in-law, Willene Collins of Bartlesville; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
