Shaffstall, 70, of Elyria, died March 8, 2019 at University Hospitals Elyria Medical Center. He was born October 2, 1948 in Elyria and was a 1966 graduate of Elyria High School. From 1968 to 1971, Bruce served in the United States Marine Corps, including 2 years in Japan.

He completed his basic training at Parris Island and preformed Avionics Maintenance on A-6 Intruders. He was also trained in nuclear weapons loading and programming, cross trained as a plane captain and was avionics shop QOS certified. He was formerly employed as a supervisor at GTE and had been operations MSC manager for GTE MobleNet from where he retired.

He then owned and operated 3-D Cellular and invented SoftBase used by the largest wireless company in the US. He also helped develop a 911 tool for all four AT&T wireless system types and then worked at Blue Wireless in Buffalo, NY. He enjoyed music, especially from the 1960’s, playing guitar, and had appeared on the Big 5 Show.

He was a car enthusiast, especially Hondas, RC cars, motocross and motorcycles. He was an avid runner, having competed in marathons and triathlons. He loved spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren and enjoying his Dunkin Donuts coffee.

Bruce is survived by his wife of 44 years, Charlene B. (nee Costello); children, Keith, Christopher, Angela, and Corey (Danielle) Shaffstall; 10 grandchildren; brothers, John (Sharon) Shaffstall and Daniel (Denise) Shaffstall. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Margery (nee Kerkes) Shaffstall. Friends will be received Wednesday, March 13, 2019 from 10:00 am until the time of a 12 noon funeral service at Dicken Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 323 Middle Ave.

, Elyria, Ohio. Very Rev. Father Basil Stoyka will officiate.

Burial will be in Brookdale Cemetery, Elyria, Ohio where Elyria VFW #1079 Honor Guard will present military honors.
