James Edwin “Buddy” Cartrette, 72, of Fremont went to be with his Lord and Savior Wednesday, April 18, 2018 at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville. Homegoing service will be held Friday, April 20, 2018 at 7 p.m. in the chapel of Shackleford-Howell Funeral Home in Fremont. The family will receive friends following the service and other times at the home.

A graveside service with military honors will be held Saturday, April 21, 2018 at 11 a.m. at Eureka Cemetery. Buddy was born in Washington, DC on July 11, 1945 to the late John Emery and Mattie Keene Cartrette. He was a veteran of the United States Army having served in the Vietnam War.

Buddy attended Rosewood Church of God and will be missed by all his family and friends. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Patricia Cox Cartrette; his half-sister, Densie McCammon and husband, Clyde of Charleston, South Carolina; his mother-in-law, Ila Grey Cox of Pikeville; his brother-in-law, Clinton Cox and wife, Carolyn of Pikeville; and three sisters-in-law, Jackie Blizzard and husband, Buck of Pikeville, Marilyn Wolfe and husband, Ricky of Pikeville and Clara Rudisill and husband, Lee of Pikeville. The family is in the care of Shackleford-Howell Funeral Home in Fremont.
