Byron Allen Bassel, Jr. July 28, 1932 – January 10, 2019 Send Flowers Sign Guestbook| Send Sympathy Card Byron Allen Bassel, Jr., of Fabius died at home on January 10, 2019 after a long illness. Born on July 28, 1932, he was the son of the Frances Fulwiler Bassel and Byron A. Bassel Sr. of Waco, Texas. He received his BA and after serving in the army, a Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of Texas, Austin.

He moved to Syracuse, NY in 1966 to join the faculty of the Microbiology Department at the State University of New York Health Science Center, doing research on protein synthesis. After retirement, he pursued his interest in ceramics, inspired by Japanese styles. His marriage to Alix Robinson ended in divorce.

Survivors include wife and companion of 33 years, Margaret Fransen; sister, Nancy Bassel of Waco, TX; mother-in-law, Joan Fransen of Lake City, FL; sister and brother-in-law, Diana and Kevin Shell of Macclenny, FL; and cousins, Linda and Towne Adams of Waco, TX and their families.
