Obituary for Byron Bryce Carlson Byron Bryce Carlson, 77, family man, Marine, friend, and servant to his fellow man, passed suddenly on Thursday, September 13, 2018. Byron was born May 4, 1941 to Bryce and Beulah Carlson (nee Booth), in Yakima, WA. He was the first of three children.

The family moved to Pasco, WA a year later, and Byron lived the remainder of his life in Pasco. After graduating from Pasco High School, class of 1959, Byron began working for the Great Northern railroad, which later became the Burlington Northern railroad and then the Burlington Northern Santa Fe railroad (BNSF). His quiet demeanor quickly earned him the nickname of “Chatty” by his colleagues.

In 1963, Byron enlisted in the Marine Corps, serving as a Radio Relayman and instructor. He mainly served in 29 Palms, CA and Camp Pendleton in Oceanside, CA. He served honorably for 3 years and in 1966 he was honorably discharged and returned to his job with the Railroad, where he worked until his retirement in 2003.

Byron will be remembered as a devoted husband and father, a Marine who was proud of his heritage, and a friend and servant to his fellow man. He volunteered in many capacities through his life. He was a student and assistant instructor for Columbia Basin Tae-Kwon Do, an Assistant Scout Master, assisting Mr. Jim Boynton with Boy Scout Troop #155, dedicated time to the Marin Corps League, and served 12 years as the Executive Officer (assistant to the Commanding Officer – Ms. Alores Villanueva) of the Columbia River Young Marines, as well as teaching and coaching the color guard for Columbia River Young Marines.

Byron also contributed to many maintenance and rebuilding projects at Riverview United Methodist Church, and was always helping family and friends with things from helping move to helping with school studies and expenses, to giving advice when asked. Byron really connected with youth and was constantly working with them to help them grow into young men and women of integrity, wisdom, and good character. His advice and counsel will be missed by many, youth and adults alike.

Byron is survived by his beloved wife of 31 years, Pauline Carlson, and his brother Gerald Carlson (Peggy), his Sister Sandy Votaw (Frank), his eight children Sean Carlson (Heather), Carrie Lundgren (Doug), Richard Carlson (Maria), Tima Goiri (David), Donald Craig, Richard Craig, Bryan Craig (Jenny), and Angie Craig-Schaeffer (Ivan), and by 24 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
