CUSTER- Byron K. Jr., 97, Laurel View Village, Davidsville and Westmont. Passed away January 30, 2019 at his residence. Born January 17,1922 in Johnstown.

Son of Byron K. Sr. and Helen (Kuehne) Custer. Preceded in death by parents, wife Ruth M. (Wenerd), and grandchildren Gretchen Custer and Douglas Rush Jr., and brother Paul F. Survived by children Byron K. III married to Lana Moll of Johnstown, Joan C. Rush of Johnstown and John E. married to Hoa (Phan) of Johnstown; grandchildren Byron K. IV and Courtney Custer, Brian Rush and Lelya Coker, great grandchildren Derek, Cooper, and Shelby Edwards, Byron K. V and Carson Custer, and Claire, Grady, and Watts Coker; and sister Jean Ann Griffith of Johnstown. Member of Westmont Presbyterian Church where he was a deacon and trustee.

Former member and Board of Directors of Greater Johnstown Chamber of Commerce, Junior Achievement, Penn’s Woods Council Boy Scouts of America, Mercy Hospital, Greater Johnstown Committee (Chairman) in 1981, Sunnehanna Country Club (President) in 1971, Cambria County Association for the Blind and Handicapped (Chairman) from 1986-1988, and Westmont School Board. Byron was a 1939 Johnstown High School and a 1948 University of Michigan graduate with an Electrical Engineering Degree. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1944 to 1946 as an Electronic Technicians Mate, First Class.

Former employee of H.F. Lenz Co from 1948 to 1955; Wilson Construction Co. (Vice President) from 1955 to 1960; Straw, Custer and Duray, Consulting Engineers (President) from 1960 to 1974; Friendly City Federal Savings and Loan (President) from 1974 to 1980; and where he retired from First United Federal Savings and Loan (President) 1980 to 1988. Friends will be received from 4-7 on Friday at John Henderson Co. Funeral Home, 215 Central Ave. Funeral Service will be held 11:00 on Saturday at Westmont Presbyterian Church.

Rev. Dr. Rene Whitaker and Rev. Jeffrey Bassette will be officiating.
