Carmella “Mely” DiGiambattista, age 92, of the Cliffwood Section of Aberdeen died on Monday, June 11, 2018 at Brandywine Assisted Living, a Memory Care Community in Colts Neck, NJ. Carmella was born in Cliffwood on February 5, 1926, in the family home where she remained a lifelong resident until she moved to Brandywine. She was a lifelong communicant of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, Keyport, NJ.

Carmella began her career at age 18 as a secretary to State Senator John E. Toolan of the law firm Toolan, Haney & Romond, Esqs. , Perth Amboy. She remained with the law firm until her retirement to become caregiver to her mother Domenica.

She belonged to various business organizations, weekly bowling leagues and enjoyed dining out, especially breakfast. Carmella enjoyed traveling with her close friends, Lottie and Josephine and later her niece, Barbara. Beginning in 1986 she traveled extensively with her sister, Concetta and Barbara.

Carmella thoroughly enjoyed reading and was a regular at the Matawan-Aberdeen Library. She would work at, and complete, crossword puzzles daily. Carmella always kept a positive attitude.

To her, the glass was always half full. She was very generous to her many chosen charities, her church and her family. If anyone needed help or advice, “Aunt Mely” always made herself available.

She had a special smile and a caring heart. Miss DiGiambattista was predeceased by her parents, Luigi and Domenica DiGiambattista, her brother Dante, sisters Concetta Duvak and Mary DeSantis. She is survived by her nieces and nephews, Barbara Duvak, Luigi DeSantis, MaryAnne DeSantis, Michael DeSantis and all loving relatives.

The family would like to thank everyone at Brandywine for their devotion to Carmella over the last 6 years and to Hospice for their round the clock assistance in helping Carmella’s passing be as comfortable as possible. Visitation will be Friday June 15, 2018, from 4-8 PM at Day Funeral Home, 361 Maple Place, Keyport, NJ 07735 and Saturday June 16, 2018 at 8:45 AM. A funeral mass will follow on Saturday, 9:30AM at St. Joseph RC Church, 376 Maple Place, Keyport.

Interment will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
