Carol A. Burford 78 passed away peacefully on November 22, 2018, in Columbus Ohio. Carol was a lifelong employee of the Federal Government and during her tenure there she received many Awards for Sustained Superior Performance, as well as other Service Awards, dating from 1966 to the year she retired in 2003 with over 45 years of service. Carol was born to Virginia and Clifford Richmond, the second oldest of six siblings; Barbara, Anita, Mary, Clifford Jr., and Tracie.

As a family, the Richmond’s spent many days on Lake Erie, boating, fishing and camping. Carol’s two children, at the time Aimee and Jeffrey were also able to join in on the Lake Erie excursions as well as Carol’s Great Grandmother Eva Lelious. This love of Lake Erie stayed with Carol her entire lifetime.

She and her husband Ron Burford were both avid anglers and won many Fish Ohio Awards for catching award-winning sized fish. They both loved the Lake and spent many wonderful days there. They also fished in the Pacific Ocean, Gulf of Mexico, most of the Great Lakes and in many Canadian Lakes.

After retirement, Carol began volunteering with Cause for Canines. She and her daughter Aimee spent every other Sunday, for 10 years at Mingle with the Mutts. “Mingle” is a program that was established by the Franklin County Dog Shelter and Adoption Center where local rescue groups could come and bring their adoptable dogs for people to see.

She enjoyed it very much and loved visiting the other groups to pet their dogs. Her beloved dog Max was adopted by her and Ron from Cause for Canines. Carol also enjoyed traveling extensively with her daughter Candacy Taylor, she also enjoyed gardening, knitting and spending time with family.

She was most content at home in her backyard with family and Max. Her last boat ride was on Buckeye Lake a few months ago and she had a wonderful time. Carol is predeceased by her parents, Virginia and Clifford Richmond, her son Jeffrey R. Cowans and her husband Ron Burford.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Aimee (Fred) Schwab and Candacy Taylor. Her siblings, Barbara Wells, Mary Hartzog, Anita (Crawford) Bunkley, Tracie (Dana) Bateman, and Clifford Richmond Junior. Her grandchildren, Corinna, Justin, and Joshua Schwab, and Great Granddaughter Amelia Rae Wilson, who gave her so much joy!
