Poland – Carol Jean Magni, 82, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 17, 2019 at her home, surrounded by her family. Carol was born October 23, 1936 in Youngstown, a daughter of Carl and Helen Pesa Pachell. Before Carol was born, he father Carl passed away in an accident.

Her mother remarried several years later and she was raised by Joseph DeMain. She was a 1954 graduate of East High School and enjoyed drama club, singing, and writing while in school. In 1954, she was honored as “Youngstown Mayor for the Day” for her great interest in governmental activities.

After graduation, she attended Youngstown College for two years before beginning her family. Mrs. Magni worked many years as a realtor in the Youngstown area. Carol’s biggest joy in life was her family and she adored being a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.

Carol loved gathering her family together for holidays and looked forward to family dinners each Sunday that she loved preparing. She also enjoyed playing in her monthly 500 card club with her longtime childhood friends and was a member of the Red Hat Society. Carol was a longtime member of Holy Family Church in Poland.

She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Robert L. Magni Sr., whom she married December 29, 1956; six children, Robert L. (Patricia) Magni Jr. of Poland, Judith (Gary) Allen of Poland, Gregory (Kristen) Magni of Big Pool, MD, Sara (Donald) Katcher of New Middletown; Joseph (Michele) Magni of Poland, and David R. Magni of Poland; eight grandchildren, Katie, Robert III, Alayne, Amy, Alexander, Mallory, Carson, and Karissa; three great-grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews; and many wonderful friends. Carol was preceded in death by her mother, Helen DeMain and her fathers, Carl Pachell and Joseph DeMain. There will be no calling hours.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Holy Family Church with Msgr. Connell officiating. Interment will follow at the Poland Riverside Cemetery.

Although flowers are beautiful, the family suggests that memorial tributes take the form of contributions to Hospice of the Valley, 5190 Market St., Youngstown, OH 44512 or Holy Family Church, 2729 Center Rd. , Poland, OH 44514. Arrangements are being handled by the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home, Poland Chapel.
