CAROL’s Obituary Mrs. Carol J. Martin, 77, joined the fellowship of saints February 5, 2019 at Cleveland Clinic – Indian River Hospital following two years of fighting cancer. Born in Alexandria, VA, she was raised in Alexandria and Chevy Chase, MD, then resided in Annapolis, MD until retirement when she moved to New Bern, NC then Vero Beach, FL. Following early employment as a Foreign Service Office at the U.S. Department of State, she transferred to the US Department of Defense and retired at the U.S. Naval Academy, Annapolis, MD.

She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Indiana University—Bloomington. Birding, camping, and sailing were her hobbies. She was a member of successive Audubon bird clubs, Airstream camping club, Annapolis Yacht Club and New Bern Yacht Club.

Her remote controlled Victoria class model sailboat participated in weekly races at Indian River Estates (IRE). She spent many summers on Mt. Desert Island, ME.

She played Mah Jongg in groups on Mt. Desert Island and at Indian River Estates. At her death she was a member of the 1st Presbyterian Church of Vero Beach, FL.

Survivors include her husband of 51 years, C. Keith Martin, and her brother, Gove G. “Chip” Johnson III. She was predeceased by her parents, Janet Young Johnson and Gove G. “Griff” Johnson, Jr. Memorial contributions may be made to: Acadia Wildlife Foundation, 49 Black Dog Rd. , Bar Harbor, ME 04609; Pelican Island Audubon Society, 195 9th St. SW, Vero Beach, FL 32962; or a charity of one’s choice.
