Obituary Service Details Carol Joyce Wettschreck, age 81 of Bemidji, MN died Friday, December 15, 2017. Memorial Services will be 10:30 A.M. Saturday, May 5, 2018 at the Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home, Bemidji. Family will greet friends for one hour before the service at the Funeral Home.

Inurnment will be at a later time in Calvary Cemetery, Bemidji. Honorary bearers; Kevin Wettschreck, Kolte Wettschreck, Jake Wettschreck, Michael Wettschreck. Carol Joyce Wettschreck was born July 1, 1936 in Detroit Lakes, MN to Carl and Grace (Johnston) Carlson.

At the age of 5, she moved with her family to Bemidji where she graduated from Bemidji High School in 1954. In 1955 she started working at the Northern National Bank. On August 10, 1961 she married Louis Otto Wettschreck in Bemidji, Minnesota.

It was around this time that she accepted a position with the First National Bank. In 1968 she resigned from the First National Bank to become a fulltime mother for three boys. A camera was never far away from Carol.

She enjoyed taking pictures of everything and everybody. Every fall there were always plenty of pumpkins at the Wettschreck farm. Carol loved painting faces on them and would give many away as gifts.

Every year a day was reserved for the making of lefsa. The process would start around 3 AM and Louis and Carol would make hundreds of pieces lefsa and many were given away as gifts. Carol loved all holidays, especially Halloween.

Instead of purchasing candy carol would bake her own treats. Kids would flock to Carol’s on Halloween knowing that they would get her homemade goodies, especially her chocolate cupcakes. She also enjoyed collecting greeting cards, rubber stamps and postage stamps.

Probably most of all though, she loved her doll Jed. She was a very generous and thoughtful woman. She is survived by sons, Karl J. (Doris) Wettschreck of Bemidji, MN, and Keith R. (Tracy) Wettschreck, Saint Michael, MN; 5 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and a sister, Dorothy (Michael) Swanson, Kimball, MN.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Grace Carlson; husband, Louis Wettschreck; son, Kyle Wettschreck; and a sister, Patricia Stephens.
