Of Turtle Creek, age 92, died peacefully at her home with her family present on Wednesday, November 14, 2018. Carolina was born on June 13, 1926 to the late Antonio and Sarah (Carfang) Tarantini. Beloved mother of her devoted daughter, Sandy Varlotta, with whom she resided.

Treasured “Grannie” of Justin (Lyndsay) Brown of Forest Hills. Carolina was proudly expecting her first great-grandson who is due to be born in February. Carolina began her working career as a cashier at the G.C. Murphy store in East Pittsburgh.

She then spent 27 years as a cashier for A&P in Wilkinsburg. In her later years and until she was 77, Carolina worked as a Kindergarten Aide in Wilkins Primary in the Woodland Hills School District. Because of her father’s rooting interest in the Pittsburgh Pirates, he took Carolina to ball games at Forbes Field and fostered her lifelong enthusiasm and support for the Pirates.

Friends are welcome on Friday from 2-8pm at Patrick T. Lanigan Funeral Home and Crematory, Turtle Creek/Monroeville Chapel, 1111 Monroeville Ave. at James St., Turtle Creek 412-823-9350. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Colman Church on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. Carolina will be laid to rest in Good Shepherd Cemetery.
