OBITUARY Carolyn Ward Berk October 21, 1936 – July 22, 2018 Carolyn Ward Berk, 81, died peacefully Sunday July 22, 2018 at her home in West Des Moines after a long illness. A memorial gathering will be held at a later date. The daughter of Lucille and Walter Ward of Birmingham, Alabama, Carolyn was born October 21, 1936.

She moved to Des Moines in 1964 and made it her home. Always independent and self-reliant, she owned an import furniture store in West Des Moines, two consignments stores, and in 1980 started a paint contracting business. She owned the first female paint contracting business in Central Iowa.

Those left to honor her memory includes her husband, Richard “Dick” Robertson; son, William “Marty” Berk; stepchildren, Rick Robertson, Michelle Klein and David Roberston; sister, Marjorie Baker; grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Animal Rescue League of Iowa.
